Aulcie Perry takes center court in Dani Menkin’s follow-up to “On the Map,” depicting the unlikely victory by fledgling Maccabi Tel Aviv in the 1977 European Basketball Championship. Here he focuses on the Israeli team’s improbable hero, tracing the African-American athlete’s life after the upset victory that boosted Israel’s image. Aulcie ended up staying in Israel, converting, and marrying a supermodel. His remarkable and inspiring journey doesn’t end there.

Talkback with Dani Menkin in Person
Filmmaker Dani Menkin, who opened the 2017 festival with basketball legend Tal Brody and “On the Map,” returns with two new biographical dramas displaying his skills as a documentary storyteller. With a kinetic sense of cinema, and a remarkable empathy for his subjects, the former athlete and journalist displays both sensitivity and a flair for action. A two-time Israeli Academy Award Winner, Dani is an internationally-acclaimed, award-winning writer-director. His feature and documentary films have sold to HBO, LIONSGATE, and DISNEY.
