Virtual: Hidden Sparks Photography: Images of Ordinary Life in an Extraordinary Land

Date: September 3, 2020
Time: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Join local/ international photographer, Bruce Shaffer as he navigates us through the quirky and complex, comforting and disturbing, stark and beautiful images from his wanderings and work, far off the tourist trail. His photography looks at life often found in the margins, which he captures in street and photojournal image styles found mostly in Israel and the West Bank / Palestine. "I'm seeking the inexplicable expressions, gestures, and postures that penetrate the surface, to what's really happening and how does it feel?"

Veteran Boulderite Bruce Shaffer began photographing Israel and the West Bank / Palestine in 1999, and has been living half-time in Jerusalem since 2013. Bruce leads ongoing photography workshops for groups of combined Israeli and Palestinian youth, his work has appeared in Ha’aretz, The Times of Israel, The Forward, The Third Way film and he photographs for regional NGO's such as Roots/Shorashim/Judur, Tiyul-Rihla, Women Wage Peace, Machsom Watch, Taghyeer, and Pashut Ahava.
