Date: May 10, 2020Time: 10:00 am

The new Netflix series, Unorthodox, tells the story of a 19-year-old woman from Brooklyn who flees her Chasidic community to chart a new path in Berlin. When Michal Birnbaum was cast in the series, she experienced a magical meeting point between her professional life as a film and theater maker, and her personal life, having grown up in a similar community in B'nei Brak, Israel. Michal will share with her sister, Tova Birnbaum, her unique experiences on the set, her view on the representation of the Chasidic community in the show, and how, as an observant orthodox New York-based actress she reconciles the differences between those worlds.

The session will also be live-streamed on the OFJCC Hang & Learn Facebook page and JewishLive. To register for the Zoom link, please email Tova Birnbaum at
